The Wretchedness Inside

I was recently asked to ghost-write a song for a contemporary band. The song ended up not being used, so I decided you guys may enjoy it. Here it is, “The Wretchedness Inside.”

music, lyrics, engineering, production, mixing, and mastering by Matthew Kiichi Heafy

The Wretchedness Inside

You think you’ve won but you don’t stand a chance

Determination is a flame that lives right inside of my bones

You think you buried me but I’ve come back from the dead

You better aim for my head

Submerged in dirt: it was never enough

This weightless earth never could hold me down

I’ve had my eyes on my target since birth

Those who oppose? I dismember my rivals

I must emancipate my pain

To ensure an unrivaled reign

I’m tearing at the seams

I’ve fallen to my knees

I’m begging for the

Strength to kill the wretchedness inside

The wretchedness inside

My nemesis is one inherent in me

My devastation is the bane of existence and I just can’t kill this beast

Without the fight of a lifetime

For it’s the struggle in me

Submerged in dirt: it was never enough

This weightless earth never could hold me down

I’ve had my eyes on my target since birth

Those who oppose? I dismember my rivals

I must emancipate my pain

To ensure an unrivaled reign

I’m tearing at the seams

I’ve fallen to my knees

I’m begging for the

Strength to kill the wretchedness inside

I’m tearing at the seams

I’ve fallen to my knees

I’m begging for the

Strength to kill the wretchedness inside

This blood I bleed, I bleed only for me

This blood I bleed, I bleed only for me

Solo

This blood I bleed, I bleed only for me

I’m tearing at the seams

I’ve fallen to my knees

I’m tearing at the seams

I’ve fallen to my knees

I’m begging for the

Strength to kill the wretchedness inside

I’m tearing at the seams

I’ve fallen to my knees

I’m begging for the

Strength to kill the wretchedness inside

The wretchedness inside

This blood I bleed, I bleed only for me

This blood I bleed, I bleed only for me

  1. Well done Matt! Said band you wrote it for, (whomever they may be) I hope they really like it. Reading the lyrics though, I almost could hear the backing music to go with it :-D

  2. This is great. I’m always eager to hear stuff from band members that isn’t part of their reapective band. Nailed this \m/

  3. Reading over the lyrics it really seems like Built to Fall and this song were really similar in concept. “You better aim for my head” is a lyric in both of them. But I absolutely love this song man, you should definitely write more stuff like this

    Nice work,
    Walt

  4. Congratulations! That is an amazing song!
Whoever they are, they really don’t know what they’re missing by not using it… Please keep doing such a good job. Thank you for your hard work, and thanks for sharing this track!

  5. I love it! This reminds me a lot of capharnaum and mindscar mixed with the blue demo exclusives. And the production quality is even better than the crusade demos!

  7. OMG. This song is great. Matt u sang with something I haven’t heard since Ascendency/Shogun. The way he voice goes brutal to heavy melodic not to melodic is great.

  8. Oh, it’s awesome!
Dear Matthew, I hope that you will make tabs for this song or lesson.
Loved the music and especially the chorus!
You’re an incredible motivation for me to do music!
Inspired by your music, and it helps in a difficult moment.
    Good luck and health!

  9. It’s kinda sad they didn’t use it afterall, but Thank you for putting it up anyway! I really enjoyed listening it and I can’t wait to put it on my MP3 player. When I have a new one.. since I lost my Ipod, dang it! > <..

  10. Mean of them not using your hard work for that band but I love the song. No one could come up with music like you Matt!

  11. Great job, matt!

I’d also like to know the band behind it ;-)
The lyrics are (as expected) more than awesome and match the music behind so ******* well!

    Unleash mayhem,
    Lukas
